Oshawa Italian Recreation Club and its heritage

A big community of Italian-Canadian citizens and cultural enthusiasts alike live in Oshawa, Canada. As a product of this growing community, the Oshawa Italian Recreation Club was born to celebrate their dual heritage.

This club is located in the Cultural Centre of Durham because the place is friendly for the celebration of cultural diversity. Our doors is open not only to the Italian-Canadian community but to anyone who are interested in joining us in celebrating this cause.

About Oshawa Italian Recreation Club

Our organization has been operation for over 40 years with the support and hard work of a volunteer-based membership. We have grown from a social group that only met for celebrations to becoming one that promotes cultural diversity in the City of Oshawa.

This club would not be possible without the efforts of our members and the support of the community around us. We are grateful to everyone who continues to encourage us in raising awareness about the Italian-Canadian heritage in Oshawa.

The main purpose of Oshawa Italian Recreation Club grew from only promoting the Italian culture to the community to giving the city a positive change. We do this through our small but extensive fundraising efforts that our members passionately oversee.

Over the years, thousands of dollars have been raised to help the following:

  • community hospital
  • community sports teams

In April 2009, we rushed to the aid of the earthquake victims in Italy and created the Earthquake Relief Fund. This fundraising effort was able to raise CAD 52,000.00 in aid. One of the most recent efforts of the club is pledging an amount of CAD 90,000.00 over the next three years for scholarships at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.

We will be continuing the efforts of bettering the Oshawa community through our small means of aid and support to our brothers and sisters.
